First Frost & Canning
This weekend's canning projects: tomatoes, peaches, and bread & butter pickles. We've had our first frost and it's been getting rather cool at night so we've had to cover up the precious vegetables (tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, cucumbers, summer squash) with old sheets. We're a little early for Halloween but they make fantastic ghosts under the full moon.
i was just thinking today, as I was discarding a an empty can of beans, that if we "canned" stuff than we would be reusing the containers that food was kept in.
ReplyDeleteThose pickles look delish. Yeah, fall is on its way!
ReplyDeleteOh, canning! I loved canning when I was a kid. Those jars look lovely.
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about learning about canning vegetables (our farmers market has had a lot of tomatoes recently).
ReplyDeletemmm. i've always wanted to learn how to can.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are great.
ReplyDeleteAnd your tomatoes look delicious.
canning is hot.
ReplyDeleteI love that picture of the 'ghostly' vegetables.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try canning vegies. People used to do it a lot in my mother's generation but I think it's a lost art now in our urban lifestyle. Thanks God for the internet, so I can research how to do it.
maypole, it's true. But it is a lot of work.
ReplyDeleteqt, it is indeed!

amadna, there is something very satisfying in putting up your own food - and it always tastes better too.
