Don't Bump the Glump

I just had to tell you that Shel Silverstein's first poetry collection has gone back in print (after 3 decades)! It's a gorgeous book with color drawings: Don't Bump the Glump. It's absolutely fabulous. It opens with this:

A WARNING FOR THOSE WHO CHANCE
TO MEET A WILD GLUMP COMING HOME
LATE AT NIGHT, DOWN A DARK STREET,
PAST A GRAVEYARD, ALL ALONE IN A STORM

DON'T BUMP THE GLUMP

  4. I absolutely love the quote on your page by Antonio Machado.
I found a used copy of Where the Sidewalk Ends, just the other day in a thrift store. I had never seen a used Shel Silverstein book in my life. He was so good.

  5. i love shel silverstein!

when i was a camp counselor i posted the following poem on my cabin door (although don't bumpt the glump would have been fun, too!)

    INVITATION

If you are a dreamer, come in.
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
    A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer . . .
If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire,
For we have some flax golden tales to spin.
    Come in!
    Come in!
