Happy Winter Solstice!

Happy Winter Solstice!

Don't believe when people tell you this is the first day of winter. It's really the hump day of winter; the begining of the end of the long dark night; the shortest day of the entire year. The day when darkness regins and the sun sleeps in.

And to my blogging friends & readers in the southern hemisphere (Hele, Gill, Parlance & Sally Forth and any others): Happy Summer Solstice!

  2. I think of the winter solstice as my baseline* for the year - and seeing as it'll be a whole year until the says are this short again, it makes the intervening days seem far more positive somehow.

    Merry Christmas, by the way.

*It's my baseline, it's completely arbitrary and I'll put it where it suits me best.

  3. Thanks! I can't believe our longest day has been and gone, we've had the weirdest, wet Summer...global warming and all that jazz?

  4. maypole, thanks!

but why, thanks for the x-mas wishes and I agree with about the baseline thing.

gill, you're welcome! yes, sadly it is climate change and all that jazz. Funny though how the summer solstice always seems to come faster then the winter one.
